Myofascial Release Therapy
Myofascial Release Therapy is a blend of massage and stretching that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the fascia restrictions to eliminate pain and increase motion.
Therapists use this hands-on approach to ease pressure in the fibrous bands of connective tissue, or fascia that encase muscles throughout the body. Sheaths of this dense and elastic connective tissue weave about blood vessels, bones, and nerves to support the body's organs and joints from head to toe.
Injury or scarring to connective tissues can cause pain and hinder motion.
The focus of this type of therapy is to alleviate these problems by breaking up or "releasing" the restrictions in the fascia.
Typical diagnoses that can benefit from this, but not limited to, include:
- Sports injuries
- Motor Vehicle Accidents
- Longstanding back pain
- Recurring headaches
- Poor posture
- Repetitive stress/strain injuries
- Therapy is used for many other conditions for people of all ages
The first appointment will include an initial evaluation and a musculoskeletal physical exam to ensure that Myofascial Release treatment is appropriate for you.
The evaluation/exam includes a postural assessment, strength, and range of motion testing.
Each treatment is performed directly on the skin.
Clothing recommendations include: loose clothing, tank top and shorts to allow the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of pressure to release the fascia.
