Prairie du Chien, WI – Deborah Simon, MD, and Jaime Peterson, PA-C, are a true example of a collaborative effort to bring high-quality health care to southwest Wisconsin and northeast Iowa. Through an agreement between Crossing Rivers Health and Gundersen Health System, Dr. Simon and Jaime provide gynecology services at the Crossing Rivers Health Center for Specialty Care in Prairie du Chien.
“I understand that it’s nice to have care close to home. I think it’s great to be in a smaller community and be able to operate here – especially to be able to do robotic surgery in a smaller community,” Jaime empathized. “I appreciate providing care at Crossing Rivers Health so people do not have to drive hours and navigate a bigger health system when they feel more comfortable in their local health system,” Dr. Simon added. “Having this beautiful, new hospital building and providing the kind of care you can get at a bigger hospital, locally, is something to be very proud of.”
Such a close positive working relationship provides Crossing Rivers Health Center for Specialty Care patients with double the expertise and experience in receiving gynecology care.
“When I’m in LaCrosse, Jaime assists me, and when I’m here, Jaime assists me,” explained Dr. Simon. “I think the team aspect allows us to provide safe, efficient care. We all benefit from that, but the real winner is the patient.” Jaime added, “Dr. Simon and I have a really good relationship. We practically read each other’s minds as far as what the next move is going to be. In LaCrosse, we have a team aspect as well, but it’s even more team-focused here because we operate together and we see our clinic appointments as a team. I assist Dr. Simon in surgery; we both see the patient afterward and work on orders together.” Dr. Simon concluded, “Two brains are better than one.”
Dr. Simon and Jaime offer patients the full spectrum of gynecologic care with access to the most specialized services, should a patient need them. The team provides treatment for the management of abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, endometriosis, and abnormal pap smears. They also perform robotic-assisted surgical procedures utilizing a da Vinci robot, resulting in less pain, shorter recovery time, and less scarring. Robotic-assisted surgery allows surgeons to perform many complex procedures with more precision, flexibility, and control than conventional techniques.
