Community Service of Remembrance set for August 14
“Again this year, we invite the community to participate in a Service of Remembrance to celebrate the lives of their loved ones on Wednesday, August 14, at 6:30 p.m. The service will be held in the beautiful outdoor setting at St. Feriole Island’s Memorial Garden in Prairie du Chien,” announces Diane Koth, CSW, Patient Family Services Director at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. “This special interdenominational service is held annually to commemorate loved ones who are no longer with us physically, but remain close in hearts and minds. We gather to remember and honor family members and friends who have helped shape our lives, and we give thanks for the gifts they leave behind.”
The Service of Remembrance is hosted by Prairie du Chien Hospice volunteers and staff and members of Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital’s Bereavement Team. Deacon Pat Malanaphy, Hospice Chaplain at PdC Memorial, will deliver a short message, and there will be readings, a candle lighting ceremony, lantern release and the presentation of names. Music will be provided by the musical group Windspiration, Mike McCoy, Nathan Rickertsen. The musical tone from a bagpipe will also add to the evening. Refreshments will be served following the service.
Those attending are asked to bring a lawn chair. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on the corner of Michigan and Iowa Streets in Prairie du Chien. Should a change of location be necessary, an announcement will be made on WQPC/WPRE Radio after noon on August 14.
