CPR and AED Training, because you could save a life

Hospital news | Thursday, February 9, 2017

One minute is all it takes for a child to drown. Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere and to anyone. It can take just minutes for the brain to die when the heart stops beating and the brain it is not supplied by oxygenated blood.

Lynn Groom, RN, Education Coordinator at Crossing Rivers Health stated, “Being trained in CPR can mean the difference between life and death. It can make the difference between a tragic and a happy outcome. It is also an important way to protect your family or friends if you are ever faced with such an emergency.”

Crossing Rivers Health is offering two courses this year to teach lifesaving techniques: Heartsaver® CPR AED and Family & Friends CPR/AED.

Heartsaver® CPR AED is designed to prepare you to provide CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. The course is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR, and how to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants. This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.

Anyone required by his or her employer or wishing to be credentialed by the American Heart Association as a lay responder should participate in the Heartsaver® CPR AED. The course will be held on Thursday, February 23, at 6:00 p.m. in the George Family Education Center. The cost to participate in the course is $53 which includes the student workbook. The Heartsaver® CPR AED course will be offered again in August.

The Family & Friends CPR/AED Course teaches the lifesaving skills in adults, children, and infants. Instruction includes how to do basic CPR, how to use an AED and relief of choking. Family & Friends CPR/AED Course is for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a CPR course completion card to meet a job requirement. This course is ideal for community groups, new parents, grandparents, babysitters, and others interested in learning how to save a life.

Friends & Family CPR/AED Training will be held on Thursday, March 23, at 6:00 pm. at Crossing Rivers Health. The course will be offered again in May and in November. The registration fee for the Friends and Family CPR/AED Training is individual $13/couple $20.
