Prairie du Chien, WI - Crossing Rivers Health Clinic announces the addition of Katy Maker, Board-Certified Nurse Midwife, to the team of clinic providers. Katy is now accepting patients at the Prairie du Chien clinic.
“I began working as a midwife because I know that people’s hearts and minds are wide-open during pregnancy and at the time of birth, which makes for the perfect time to enhance their self-respect, and engender the conviction that they are capable and beautiful people worthy of love,” expressed Katy. “Midwifery meets both women and their families at a pivotal and challenging time in their lives. The midwife enables the woman and her family to navigate crucial changes and arrive stronger and more capable with a belief in themselves that they can carry into the future. Midwives work with the mother, baby, and family to enhance their ability to make the right decisions for their life situations; to be knowledgeable self-advocates. This engenders strong parenting, life balance, and family.”
Katy is passionate about listening to the needs of her patients and believes midwifery is about more than pregnancy and birth, but also well-woman care throughout the life cycle. She has a special interest in pregnancy and birth care, including the pivotal postpartum period and breastfeeding, along with health maintenance and disease prevention.
“I care for women, adolescent through advanced years, and guide them through maintaining healthy life choices,” Katy added. “Through health maintenance and screenings, we are able to keep women strong and thriving as they mature and age. I believe in listening and getting to know what is important to my patients as a first priority. I will recommend the right things for the well-being of my patients while developing a plan with them as the director and decision maker. It is a great job, and I learn something new every day.”
Katy received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Nursing from Luther College, along with a Master of Science in Nurse-Midwifery from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing. She is currently enrolled at Graceland University to obtain a Post-Graduate Master of Science in Nursing Certificate - Family Nurse Practitioner.
“On a personal note, I am profoundly thankful for my husband of many years whom I have had tons of fun with and all the love in the world from. We have two grown children, a lovely home in the country and lives full of laughter and music,” Katy shared proudly. “We enjoy gardening, biking, and hiking and raise chickens on and off - it is a wonderful life!”
