Crossing Rivers Health Clinic Welcomes Michelle Mertens-Dodgen
Prairie du Chien, WI - Crossing Rivers Health Clinic announces the addition of Michelle Mertens-Dodgen, Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, to the team of clinic providers in Prairie du Chien. Michelle provides care to patients of all ages from joyous beginnings and family planning to aging well and dignified end-of-life planning.
“I have been in healthcare for 22 years,” explained Michelle. “I first worked as an intensive care nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics where I enjoyed the fast-paced environment, but wanted the opportunity to build relationships with patients and keep them healthy to prevent illness. I discovered primary care in a rural health setting is my passion.”
Michelle’s goal is for the residents of the region to conveniently and confidently have access to primary care services.
“I work with patients to come up with the best approach for each individual,” she added. “I take the time to listen to my patients and I work to ensure every patient understands their treatment plan, how to manage their acute illness or chronic health concerns, and how to best maintain their wellness. I also provide a full range of reproductive and obstetrics care.”
Michelle believes in empowering her patients and enjoys the personal connections that are created through the provider-patient relationship. She believes in ensuring that every patient understands their treatment plan and how to manage acute illness or chronic health conditions.
“Being a provider is not treating a number with an illness or a condition; it is about that individual person, their life, and what is going on with them. I understand the rural Midwestern way of life and the need for excellent primary care close to home. If specialized care is needed, I will be there to set up referrals and coordinate needs.”
Michelle received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Iowa, along with a Master of Science in Nursing with an emphasis on adult/geriatric nurse practitioner. She also received a Post Master’s Certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
“I grew up in a small town in southeast Iowa. My husband, Neil, and I have two children. I enjoy reading, being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with family,” Michelle shared.
