Fennimore, WI – Crossing Rivers Health Clinics are offering free skin cancer screenings to promote skin cancer awareness and early detection. Screenings will be at the Fennimore Clinic in March and at the Prairie du Chien Clinic in April.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. Checking your skin for suspicious changes can prevent cells from turning into cancer or catch them in the early stages.

“Skin cancer screenings are performed to look for signs of cancer on the skin, or that could potentially lead to cancer in the future, hopefully before symptoms appear,” explained Brian Quick, Board-Certified Physician Assistant at Crossing Rivers Health Clinic in Fennimore. “During the screening, we will check moles, birthmarks, or other pigmented areas that look abnormal in color, size, shape, or texture. If the area looks abnormal, we will discuss the process for removal.”

Crossing Rivers Health Clinic will be waiving the usual office fee for the skin cancer screening. If removal or additional testing is needed, charges will apply. Individuals are encouraged to bring insurance information to expedite any prescribed treatment.

“Scheduling a skin cancer screening is taking a proactive approach to your health,” added Dr. Kenneth Valyo, Board-Certified Doctor of Osteopathic Family Medicine who sees patients at both Crossing Rivers Health Clinic locations. “We are able to check every part of your skin – areas that, in some cases, you are not able to see – to ensure that your skin is free of spots that may develop into cancer. If we do see a spot, a biopsy can be done right there in the Clinic.”

The free skin cancer screenings are available for anyone - the general public and current patients of Crossing Rivers Health Clinic. In addition, participants will learn about skin protection, the signs of skin cancer, and receive complimentary sunscreen. Screenings can be scheduled by calling 608.357.2500.
