Grief and loss with Alzheimer ’s disease and Dementia

Hospital news | Friday, July 27, 2018

Prairie du Chien, WI and Waukon, IA - A support group offers companionship and understanding from others who have experienced a similar loss, and are experiencing similar challenges that living with grief brings.

“After the loss of a loved one, we experience a wide variety of feelings and emotions,” shared Haley Kregel, Crossing Rivers Health Hospice Social Worker. “It is a challenging process, and we all need a support system to help us move through our grief journey.”

Crossing Rivers Health Hospice encourages those dealing with grief and loss to attend a Grief Support Group. Grief Support Groups take place in Prairie du Chien at Crossing Rivers Health the first Thursday of the month and in Waukon at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital the second Tuesday of the month.

“The Hospice Grief Support Groups are for those of us who are going through the grieving process following the loss of a loved one,” added Brittney Miller, Crossing Rivers Health Hospice Social Worker. “The support groups allow for the opportunity to share feelings and experiences. If you do not wish to share anything, this is respected as well.”

The next Grief Support Group will take place at Crossing Rivers Health on August 2 and at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital on August 14. The topic for the August meeting is Grief and Loss with Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia. There will also be time for individuals to share their stories and talk about their experiences.
