Light ceremony to be held at PdC Memorial Hospital

Hospital news | Wednesday, November 20, 2013

“Partners of Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital have been lighting up the front entrance of the hospital for the past 30 years with the Season of Lights annual fundraiser,” shares Lorna Davis, Coordinator. “The Season of Lights honors and remembers loved ones with lights and/or stars during the holiday season. We invite the community to illuminate a light on our Season of Lights tree or light a star on our Walk of Stars.”

The tree lighting ceremony for the Season of Lights and Walk of Stars at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital will be held on Friday, November 29, at 4:00 p.m. under the canopy at the hospital front entrance. The lighting ceremony will include an inspirational message, music, and the announcement of all current Season of Lights and Walk of Stars honorees. There will also be a tribute to the 2013 tree top star honorees Susan J. Mara and Roy L. George.

Susan Mara was a loving mother and wife, active community member and always made time to be a true friend. Sue was a Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital employee, and she was an active member on the Hospital’s Relay For Life team. Co-workers and friends share that she possessed a gift for bringing friends together and creating bonds that will last beyond her lifetime.

Roy L. George served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII and in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. He was retired with the rank of Major. As a well respected longtime businessman, Roy established The Piggly Wiggly grocery store and the Commerce Court shopping mall location in Prairie du Chien. He was also involved in the local Kiwanis, Lions, Eagles and was member of the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard.

Partners use the proceeds from the lighting program to fund hospital equipment and other projects. Mary Mara, Volunteer Coordinator and lights partner, reminds area residents, “Tree lights and stars may be purchased through Christmas Eve as a memorial, to honor a special birthday or anniversary, as a thank you gift, or as a unique gesture of friendship. The names of all honorees will be displayed in the main entrance of the hospital through January 6, 2014.”

Season of Lights information is available in the front entrance of Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital at the Business Office reception desk and Partners volunteer desk. Brochures are also available at most Prairie du Chien banks.
