Prairie du Chien, WI – A new infant loss support group is forming in Prairie du Chien. The group will meet the first Tuesday of each month, with the first date being November 7, in the Polodna Conference Room at Crossing Rivers Health.
“Any individual who has lost a child becomes an involuntary member of a team that no one wants to be on,” stated Emily Wetter, Crossing Rivers Health Social Worker. “To find this type of support, someone would have to travel to LaCrosse or Dubuque. We are hoping to make a group more convenient to those in need of it.”
The Infant Loss Support Group is a support program for parents experiencing pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or infant death— no matter the time frame.
“This support group is being offered to any woman or man who has lost a child,” Wetter continues. “Our hope is to reach out to individuals of all ages who have suffered from a loss, whether it was 2 months or 40 years ago.”
The goal of the group is to show those that have suffered a loss that they are not alone, and that they can gain support from others who have gone through or are currently going through a similar situation.
“This group is not a counseling session, rather a time for us to get together to support one another,” Wetter added. “If you have suffered a loss, come and share you story, or sit quietly and learn from others. We will not ask that anyone step outside of their comfort zone, rather share or sit and listen at their comfort.”
