Hospital news | Saturday, November 1, 2014

Is surgery in your future? Want to walk through a giant inflatable colon – a larger-than-life way to learn about polyps, cancer and the importance of screenings? Mark your calendar for Saturday, November 8. The surgical team at Crossing Rivers Health invites the public to learn the specialty areas and some of the procedures performed in their two hybrid surgical suites at a Surgical Fair on Saturday, November 8, from 11:00 am to 3:00 p.m. The event will be held in the Polodna Health Learning Center at Crossing Rivers Health, 705 East Taylor Street, Prairie du Chien.

Cheri Everson, RN, Surgical Services Director, explains, “We’re hosting this Surgical Fair to give area residents an opportunity to ask questions and to learn about the numerous procedures performed right here at Crossing Rivers Health. Our staff will be on site to share information on general surgery and specialties such as podiatry, endoscopy, orthopedics and urinary/gynecological surgery as well as anesthesia. Individuals will also have an opportunity to learn about treatment options for joint pain and joint replacement surgery.”

One of the highlights of the fair will be a huge inflatable colon exhibit that will educate visitors on colorectal cancer prevention and early detection. When you walk through the inflatable colon, you will see images along with explanations of healthy colon tissue, colorectal polyps, various stages of colon cancer, and Crohn’s and Colitis.

“The traveling inflatable colon will be very interesting to people. We will also have information about other programs and services available to area communities through Crossing Rivers Health and Clinics as well as light refreshments and drawings,” adds Cheri Everson. “Take a few minutes and join us.”
