VFW Post 1945 donates to Hospice
Commander Gene LaPointe of Prairie du Chien VFW Post 1945 presents a check for $2,000 to Marsha Konichek, RN, Prairie du Chien Hospice Director, right, and Hospice Administrative Assistant Diane Glassmaker, left. Prairie du Chien Hospice is a program of Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, a non-profit organization. The donation will be used to help cover costs for medications, medical supplies and equipment, not totally reimbursed by Medicare, Medicaid and insurance plans.
When a cure is no longer likely and length of life is limited, Hospice focuses on the total needs of patients and their family. Hospice team members provide pain and symptom management and advanced care planning, in addition to providing emotional, social, financial and spiritual support. The Hospice care team of professionals includes physicians, nurses, home care aides, social workers, counselors, and volunteers.
The care is primarily based in the home, though it can be provided in all settings, including hospital, respite, long-term care, nursing home and assisted living. Area residents may learn more about Hospice or support their fundraising activities by calling Prairie du Chien Hospice at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, 705 East Taylor Street, Prairie du Chien, WI 53821; telephone (608) 357-2000, Ext. 2288, or toll-free 1-888-439-6680.
