Bone Density Testing

Osteoporosis is a growing healthcare crisis affecting millions of women and men worldwide. Osteoporosis is both preventable and treatable and testing is safe and non-invasive.

Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA)

A bone density test with DEXA is the only way to diagnose osteoporosis before a broken bone occurs. A DEXA scan is painless, takes only a few minutes to complete, and the radiation dose is extremely low. Bone density testing provides advanced diagnostic tools to support early detection and treatment of osteoporosis.

What is your risk?

  • 1 in 2 women and 1 in 4 men 50 years of age and older will break a bone due to osteoporosis.

Learn your risk factors.

  • Women or men, 50 years of age and older
  • Postmenopausal women
  • A family history of osteoporosis
  • Insufficient calcium and vitamin D intake
  • Broken bones or height loss
  • Inactive lifestyle
  • Low body weight/being small and thin
  • Not eating enough fruits and vegetables
  • Consuming too much protein, sodium, and caffeine
  • Certain medications and diseases
  • Smoking and excessive alcohol intake
  • Rapid weight loss

Should I get my bone density tested?

The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends that you have a bone density test if:

  • You are a woman age 65 or older or a man age 70 or older
  • You break a bone after age 50
  • You are a woman of menopausal age (average age 51) with risk factors
  • You are a postmenopausal woman under age 65 with risk factors
  • You are a man age 50-69 with risk factors

If you answered yes to any of these questions, ask your primary care provider for a referral to have a bone density scan.

Our DEXA system does more

We're proud to offer the latest in bone densitometry technology with a system that measures bone density, a complete fracture risk assessment, and more.

Single energy femur exam

A 15-second single energy femur scan to detect incomplete atypical femur fractures.

Vertebral fracture assessment

The HD Instant Vertebral Fracture™ assessment dramatically improves the detection of vertebral fractures by doubling the resolution of previously available techniques with a low dose, single-energy image.

Abdominal aortic calcification

Detects calcified plaque in the abdominal aorta, which can be a significant indicator of heart disease and stroke.
