Nuclear medicine/PET scan
Nuclear medicine studies are scheduled per the request of a patient’s primary care provider. Exams routinely scheduled may include bone scans, stomach emptying defects, blood clots in the lungs, as well as gallbladder and thyroid disease.
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanning is provided by Shared Medical Services. PET studies look at metabolic activity or body function. These scans are valuable to the physician, specialist or primary care provider in the assessment of changes in organ performance that occur before structural changes have taken place. PET scans can help in the diagnosis of many diseases and determine the extent of the disease, before they are even detected in other imaging studies.
PET scans are available on an as-needed basis.
