Shelley's Journey
Shelley Deeken has been living with diabetes for years, but proper guidance has always seemed just out of reach. For more than half a decade, she has navigated her condition without the support or education she truly needs. Moving from Indiana to a new community, Shelley and her husband sought a healthcare provider who would listen, understand, and genuinely care.
Her search led her to Crossing Rivers Health, where she met Sierra, a diabetes educator. Shelley shared, "In one hour, she gave me so much information that would have made me healthier years ago—had previous doctors given it to me. Information like what I eat, how much I eat, how often…calorie limit, carbs, and protein to have each meal. Nobody's ever done that with me."
But it wasn't just the information that made an impact—it was Sierra herself. "She's very caring. You can tell she absolutely loves what she does. She takes that knowledge and funnels it in a very informative, memorable way."
As time went on, Shelley realized that it was not just Sierra who made a difference. Bridget Schultz, APNP, PMHNP-BC, and Terri Payne, CNM, APNP, two other providers at Crossing Rivers Health, have quickly become integral parts of her journey. They work together seamlessly to provide the comprehensive care she says she has never experienced before. "Bridget, Terri, and Sierra—they are my Wonder Woman team. Together, they give me something I've never had before: a healthcare team that truly listens and has one hundred percent turned my life around."
One of the most remarkable aspects of Shelley’s care is how the team collaborates. They communicate with each other about her progress, ensuring a continuum of care. "For the first time, I can trust my doctors. The care and compassion that they have put into my treatment is incredible. I wouldn't go anywhere else."
Her husband, too, found a primary care doctor at Crossing Rivers Health, and together, they discovered a level of attentiveness and compassion that had been missing from their previous healthcare experiences. They no longer feel like just another number on a patient chart; they feel heard, valued, and genuinely cared for.
At Crossing Rivers Health, Shelley has found a team of healthcare providers to work with her in her healthcare journey. They have made a real difference in her life—one that was genuine, trusted, and connected. And, with them by her side, she is living healthier and feeling better. "You know, I'm eating better because of Sierra. I'm feeling better because of Bridget. And my overall health concerns are being addressed because of Terri. One wouldn't be complete without the other."
