Terry and Lori's Story
It takes an entire team in a variety of roles to make a healthcare experience exceptional.
In August of 2023, Chris Brophy, Crossing Rivers Health Chief Executive Officer, received a letter from the wife of a patient. In the letter Lori Boyum thanked various staff members for the compassionate care provided to her husband Terry and their overall dedication to patient care. “Each and every person, from the kitchen staff to the ER doctors, maintenance to nurses, rehab to x-ray, lab to registration staff, from the emergency room to the clinic played a role in Terry’s road to recovery.”
In the middle of June, Terry was transported by ambulance to the emergency room at Crossing Rivers Health, where he was later admitted as an inpatient. Throughout the lengthy stay, the Boyums interacted with various staff members who showed kindness and compassion and left a profound impression on the couple.
Terry and Lori wanted to show their deep appreciation to the staff at Crossing Rivers Health, which resulted in the creation of a heart-warming video testimonial. Several staff members were surprised with personal letters from the couple, which they read for the first time on camera. In the letters, Lori and Terry expressed their heartfelt thanks for the unwavering kindness and compassion extended during Terry's hospital stay.
One of Terry’s wishes was to meet the Emergency Room provider who saved his life to thank him face to face. Terry, a SeaBee, learned that
Dr. Paul Mariskanish was also a veteran of the armed services. In his letter to Dr. Paul, Terry said, “From one veteran to another, thank you for your service. From one husband to another, thank you for giving me more time with my best friend.”
Dr. Paul read the emotional letter on camera for the video testimonial, while Terry and Lori waited outside the room to meet him. In a moving interaction captured in the video, Terry was able to hug the man he credits with saving his life.
The Boyum’s experience proves that it takes an entire team, in a variety of roles, to make a healthcare experience exceptional. In their letter to the CEO, Lori stated, “How fortunate we are to have them all. And thank you to you, for having such a wonderful, terrific place for this community to go.”
Since 1957, the people of Crossing Rivers Health have dedicated themselves to helping people. Because of the exceptional care provided, Terry and Lori’s story continues.
