Terry's Story

I would have never known I had colon cancer if it weren't for switching life insurance policies.
In June of 2023, my financial advisor contacted me to let me know they work with someone who could see if there was a better life insurance available than what I currently had and I could look at some new policies they offer. I decided on a new policy, but I had to get a physical before the policy coverage began.
A nurse came to the house to give a general physical and labs. Four of the test results came back abnormal, and they wanted to retest one, so I set up an appointment with Matt Snitker, DNP. Instead of just retesting one lab, Matt decided to retest them all, and they came back normal.
While at the appointment with Matt, he recommended doing a Cologuard, an at-home colon cancer screening test, or having a colonoscopy. I decided to do Cologuard, which came back abnormal as well. After receiving an abnormal Cologuard result, Matt recommended getting a colonoscopy. This led to finding a large tumor almost completely blocking my colon.
I was referred to a doctor in Madison, who specialized in colorectal tumor removal.
I had stage 2 colon cancer. I am so thankful that going in for my general physical and labs led to early detection. Because it was caught so early, I do not have to go through chemotherapy and radiation treatment. I am so thankful for Matt Snitker, DNP, for advocating on the importance of early screenings.
I would have never gone in for screening. I didn’t have any symptoms of colon cancer, but my tests were abnormal. Early detection really does save lives.
