The 5th Annual Suicide Awareness 5K Color Run/Walk brought together approximately 500 community members on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at St. Feriole Island in Prairie du Chien. The event’s purpose is to honor loved ones, raise awareness, and support local suicide prevention efforts.

Hosted through a partnership amongst the members of the Driftless Region Mental Health Coalition, Prairie du Chien Police Department, Crawford County Health and Human Services, Suicide Survivor Support Group, Crossing Rivers Health Foundation, and Sources of Strength of the Prairie du Chien School District, the event once again demonstrated the power of community connection and compassion.

“This year’s event was truly inspiring,” said Lacie Anthony, Behavioral Health Counselor at Crossing Rivers Health. “Seeing families, friends, and neighbors come together to remember, to support, and to spread the message that you are not alone reinforces why we do this. Every person who showed up made an impact in the fight for hope and awareness.”

Participants of all ages ran or walked the one-mile or 5K course through color stations, symbolizing the vibrancy of life and unity in mental health awareness. The event also featured booths from local mental health organizations, offering education, crisis resources, and opportunities for continued community involvement.

The organizing partners extend heartfelt thanks to all participants, volunteers, sponsors, and donors whose generosity and spirit made this event a success.

All proceeds from the Color Run/Walk will stay local to support suicide prevention and awareness efforts, mental health education, and resiliency across Crawford County and the surrounding region.

Organizers encourage everyone to keep the conversation about mental health going year-round. Resources and crisis support information remain available through local partners and the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline — call, text, or chat 988 any time. For those who have experienced loss, a Suicide Survivor Support Group is available locally, visit crossingrivers.org/supportgroups to learn more.
