Crossing Rivers Health Introduces Telestoke Services
Strokes are a serious medical emergency that can strike without warning. When they occur, every minute counts. Crossing Rivers Health has collaborated with TeleSpecialist Group to deliver lifesaving care directly to our patients, called Telestroke.
Telestroke is a service that uses secure video technology to connect emergency doctors at Crossing Rivers Health with neurologists within minutes. No matter what time of day a stroke happens, patients in our community will have access to a stroke specialist right away.
The neurologist can see the patient, review test results, and work with our local care team to quickly decide on the best treatment, such as giving clot-busting medication that can improve recovery if given early.
“When it comes to a stroke, minutes can make a difference between a full recovery and a long-term disability,” said Peggy Corlett, Emergency Services & Trauma Coordinator. “In a rural community like ours, access to immediate care can be limited by distance and time. Telestroke brings the expertise of neurologists into our ER, giving our patients the best chance of recovery.”
