Crossing Rivers Health is proud to announce the recertification of its Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) Program, endorsed by the American Diabetes Association (ADA). This recognition reflects Crossing Rivers Health's continued commitment to providing evidence-based, high-quality diabetes education and support for the community.

"Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) is recommended at key times, like when you're first diagnosed, haven't attended a program yet, or during your annual check-ins to fine-tune your management plan," said Sierra Loncki, Registered Dietitian. "It's also beneficial during times of change, such as shifts in your health, medications, finances, or big life changes like moving or losing a loved one."

Crossing Rivers Health’s DSMES program offers a comprehensive curriculum covering essential topics like understanding diabetes, healthy eating, staying active, managing medications, and monitoring glucose. It also focuses on preventing complications, managing stress, and developing personalized problem-solving strategies to support effective diabetes management.

The ADA endorses the 2022 National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support, a vital resource for the 38.4 million Americans living with diabetes. Despite the clear benefits, fewer than 25% of individuals with diabetes achieve target levels for glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol. Even more striking is that only 5% of Medicare beneficiaries utilize DSMES services—an essential tool for managing the condition effectively.

Since 1986, the ADA’s Education Recognition Program (ERP) has served as a gold standard for DSMES services nationwide. Crossing Rivers Health joins over 7,000 services accredited by the ADA, ensuring comprehensive care that empowers individuals to manage their diabetes confidently.
