Crossing Rivers Health Primary Care Clinic in Prairie du Chien is offering free skin cancer screenings during the month of June to promote skin cancer awareness and early detection. Patients can schedule a skin check appointment by calling 608.357.2500.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. Checking your skin regularly for suspicious changes can help to catch cancer or pre-cancerous cells in the early stages.

“Skin cancer screenings are performed to look for any abnormal skin lesions or nodules that could be cancerous or potentially lead to cancer in the future,” explained Matt Snitker, Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner at Crossing Rivers Health Primary Care Clinic. “During the screening, we will check moles or other pigmented areas that look abnormal in color, size, shape, or texture. If the area looks abnormal, we will discuss the process for removal.”

Throughout June, skin cancer screenings will be offered with no standard office fee. Should further testing or removal be needed, additional charges will apply. To help streamline any recommended treatment, please bring your insurance information.

“Scheduling a skin cancer screening is taking a proactive approach to your health,” added Charlene Sauer, Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner of Family Medicine. “We are able to check every part of your skin – areas that, in some cases, you cannot see – to ensure that your skin is free of spots that may develop into cancer. If we see a spot, a biopsy can be done immediately in the clinic.”

The free skin cancer screenings are available for anyone - the general public and current patients of Crossing Rivers Health Primary Care Clinic. In addition, participants will learn about skin protection, the signs of skin cancer, and receive complimentary sunscreen. Screenings can be scheduled by calling 608.357.2500.
