Honoring a Legacy of Service
In this heartfelt memorial tribute, we celebrate the remarkable contributions of three exceptional individuals who helped to shape healthcare in our communities. Their unwavering commitment, visionary leadership, and selfless service have left a lasting impact on Crossing Rivers Health.
Mattie Rademacher
Mattie served on the Board of Directors at Crossing Rivers Health from 2009 until 2022. During her tenure, she actively contributed to the organization’s growth and development. Notably, she served during the construction of the new medical center and primary care clinic.
Mattie’s dedication extended beyond board responsibilities, as she was also a member of Partners of Crossing Rivers Health, and contributed her time and talents to the organization in a number of ways.
She was instrumental in establishing a scholarship advancing clinical excellence in honor of her late husband, Dr. Roger C. Rademacher. Over the years the scholarship has benefitted a number of healthcare professionals, as well as the organization.
Katie Garrity
Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital and Crossing Rivers Health have been significantly impacted by the Garrity family legacy and their decades of service and devotion to the health and wellness of the people of our community. Katie Garrity carried forth that strong legacy beginning in 2012 through her service on the Crossing Rivers Health Board of Directors. Katie served as the President of the Board of Directors from 2017 until her passing in 2023.
She will be remembered for her dedication to current and future healthcare professionals, her unwavering support of her local community hospital, and reliable support in good or difficult times. Our organization’s noteworthy accomplishments during Katie’s tenure include building a new medical center, rebranding to Crossing Rivers Health, and adding primary and specialty care to the organization’s service offerings.
Alice Staples
Throughout the years, Alice had a very diverse nursing career, leaving a lasting impact on healthcare. Upon graduating from St. Luke’s, she worked in the pediatrics department at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, in Iowa City. In 1955 during the polio epidemic Alice volunteered to support the Red Cross and was sent to a Texas Polio Ward where she cared for iron lung patients. Alice later worked at the McGregor, Prairie du Chien, and Postville Hospitals and as a staff nurse at the Farrell Clinic in Prairie du Chien. The final chapter in her professional career was as the industrial nurse at the 3M in Prairie du Chien.
Alice brought a wealth of knowledge and working experience to her role on the Crossing Rivers Health Board of Directors. She served on the board from 2007 until 2014 and was proud to be part of the decision to construct the new medical center. One of Alice’s final contributions was helping to create the organization’s History Wall, which was unveiled on July 8, 2023.
