Step-by-Step Guide for Donating Breast Milk at Crossing Rivers Health
To become a human milk donor, you must meet the following criteria:
- Good Health: You should be in good overall health.
- Willingness to Pump & Store Milk: You need to be able and willing to pump and store your milk according to milk bank standards.
- Minimum Donation: You must be able to donate at least 200 ounces of breast milk.
- Non-Smoking: Donors must be non-smokers.
- Alcohol Consumption: You cannot donate milk that was pumped within 12 hours of alcohol consumption.
- No Restricted Medications: Donors must not be taking any restricted medications that could affect the milk.
Once you’ve determined you meet the qualifications, please get in touch with Heidi Baudhin, at the Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa, to begin the donor screening process. She will guide you through the next steps.

Heidi will discuss your health history and ensure you meet all the necessary requirements to be a donor. This may include a brief interview and some additional health checks.
After you’ve been approved as a donor, call the Crossing Rivers Health Obstetrical Department to arrange a time to donate your milk:

Our Obstetrical staff will help you choose a convenient time and explain the donation process.
On the day of your donation, make sure you bring your stored milk following the guidelines provided to you during the screening process.
