Diagnostic nerve block

A diagnostic nerve block can be used for the diagnosis and treatment of pain.

Diagnosis of pain

To diagnose pain, an anesthetic with a known duration of relief is applied to a set of nerves. If the pain resolves after the known duration of relief, we are able to detect the source causing the patient pain.

Treatment of pain

For pain relief, a diagnostic nerve block can be administered in the back and the knee. The goal of this type of procedure is to decrease pain, increase function, and allow for other treatments such as physical therapy and exercise.
